Bio

Anna Narday

I have been exhibiting my paintings for close to 30 years, working almost exclusively in acrylics, although I have not limited myself to canvas while working with this medium. At times I have incorporated furniture, glass, sand and wood into my work to add depth, texture and form. Stylistically my work is Expressionism and Abstract Expressionism, having been greatly influenced by Kandinsky, Malevich, Rothko and Pollock along with the great Canadian painters, Emily Carr and Lawren Harris.

In recent years I have worked full time as a Creative Director in an art department, produced, wrote and designed a series of children’s books “Clay and Katie” and continued to experiment with painting styles and subjects. After a recent visit to New York City I was totally energized by what I saw and experienced in the variety of textures, light, sounds, rhythms and movements. I came back to Toronto renewed in my commitment to painting and expressing the life within objects, settings and environments. New York had shown me a new way of experiencing what I saw and I needed a new way of interpreting what I felt. Now line, light and shadow are of equal importance with colour, balance and rhythm on the canvas.
